Half-Life 2: Episode One Walkthrough
Chapter 2: Direct Intervention
After
the core door opens, fight the soldiers that are waiting. Once the
window opens, enjoy your first view of the citadel core 1.
Alyx will call an elevator for you; enter it and head down. You’re on
your own for now. When you exit the elevator, take some energy balls and
kill the stalkers scattered amongst the platforms. Use another ball to
activate the socket above you, then the one across the room. Make your
way across the bridges, using another ball for the last socket. Once you
reach the end, use the switch you end up at to the move the bridge
positions 2.
Walk to the central platform and climb the ladder 3.
At the top, turn around and walk to the access corridor. Clear out the
soldiers that await, then bring a ball into the room to activate the
socket 4. More soldiers and some manhacks will attack you, but they shouldn’t be a problem.
Walk through the hallway the soldiers came from. Eventually you’ll
find yourself at the end of a small hallway. Use your gravity gun to
pull off the hatch on the right side 5.
Keep the hatch in your grasp, as you'll need it to block the energy
balls in the next tunnel. The exit is on your left hand side at the end.
In the next room, there are soldiers to fight. When you’re done with
them take the energy ball from the battery 6 to deactivate the force field. You’re back in the main core room now. You need to get the corridor on the left.
To do this, you have to walk very carefully around the core. Get very close to it, then when it shrinks down, walk around it 7.
Once you get into the corridor, there will be some soldiers for you to
fight. When you’ve taken care of them, go back to the core room and
bring a ball in the room, then use it to activate the socket in the
room. The main door in the room will now open for you, leading you to an
elevator. After a short trip up, you’re confronted by huge view of the
core 8. Jump onto one of the rotating
platforms. Some manhacks will arrive to pester you, so take them out,
then jump off at the platform opposite the one you came from (it is
after the window that Alyx is visible in). Once again, soldiers are
waiting for you. Remove them, and then proceed to the end of the
hallway. There is another hatch for you to pull off. Keep it, as there
is another ball tube to deal with 9.
Crawl through the space, through the broken window and then through
the ball tube into the last core control room. Activate the machine with
a ball from the tube room. It will malfunction, so head to the area
underneath it 10. Pull some energy balls
from the sparking hole in the ceiling; use them to fill in the empty
batteries in the rooms. Before putting the third one in, get back to the
platform you came in on, then launch a ball into the battery. Once
you’re back up into the control room, take a ball from the tube and
shoot it into the socket. The machine will function properly. Due to the
reaction of the core, your gravity gun will go back to its regular
status.
You can exit the room through the door that opens. You’ll find
yourself back in the initial control room with Alyx waiting for you.
After you watch Judith’s transmission, follow Alyx and make your escape.
Some rollermines will attack, but give them to Alyx to reprogram, and
they’ll take care of the soldiers you meet up with. Just don’t be near
them when they finally destruct. Make your way to the train. After it
crashes, use your gravity gun to move the stalker pod off Alyx, then
exit. Lowlife waits.
