Half-Life 2: Episode Two Enemies
In addition to the foe you encountered in Half-Life 2 and Episode One,
you'll see a few new ugly faces and some touch ups on your old friends
in Episode Two. Read on to see what's new in Episode Two!

Antlion Worker
Poisonous defenders of the Antlion nests
These creatures are only found near the hives of Antlions. While slower
than their kin, they are much tougher and can attack from range with a
poison projectile, which can cause serious amounts of damage as well as
inducing a black headcrab-like poison which requires time to dissipate. A
few close-range hits with a shotgun will see them off, but be careful;
on death they explode in a shower of poison almost as damaging as their
ranged attack. |

Antlion Queen
Glowing queen bee of the Antlions
Colloquially referred to as "The Guardian”, this unique Antlion Guard is
decidedly harder to kill. When you first encounter it you will be
evading it where possible. In battle it is practically identical to a
regular Antlion Guard, albeit with a lot more health. Beware it's melee
attack which can send you flying as well as cause large amounts of
damage. |

Antlion Grubs
The worm has turned...into a computer game character
Less an enemy per say, these disgusting bugs line the walls of the
Antlion nests. They pose no threat, but dispense little green pods that
give you small boosts to your health. Any attack will kill them off in
one hit, including the Gravity Gun. Even nudging into them squishes them
but good. Useful if you need healing in a fix, they also contribute to
one of your unlockable achievements. |

The Combine
The Universal Union is determined to keep their stranglehold on humanity
While not including any new enemies, it is worth noting the new model
for the sub-class of Combine soldiers, namely the Shotgun wielding
units. They now have a distinct maroon colour to them. This is useful
for knowing which enemies to keep your distance from in particular since
the shotgun Combine do more damage at close range. |

Autoguns
The sentry turret you can't throw a grenade at
Seen on one map, this four-barrelled gun will only shoot you if you are
above a certain height, so staying low is crucial. Luckily it doesn't
discern between you and the zombies, and will happily kill of the Xen
mutations on your behalf. You'll have to infiltrate the building it is
housed in to shut it down permanently. |
