These are the guys who will assist you throughout the game, so you'd
better treat them right! They can help you get through security checks,
provide you with useful information (so listen carefully), fight along
side you (well, some of them!), and sometimes provide a healing hand.

Gordon Freeman
Playable Character
In Half-Life, you are Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who
happens to be late for work during his first few days at the Black Mesa
Research Facility. As the field operative in the Anomalous Materials
laboratory, you're needed in the test chamber on this fateful day to
help examine an extraordinarily pure sample of an alien mineral. Soon
enough, you find yourself fighting for survival against all odds.

Scientist
Black Mesa Co-Worker
The Black Mesa scientists are your fellow co-workers and friends. They
may be cowardly bunch, but they can be extremely helpful to you. You
won't be able to survive without their assistance, so it's best to keep
them alive. Scientists can provide you with useful information and help
you get into places that you can't otherwise access. Plus, they'll
occasionally heal you when you're severely wounded.

Security Guard
Black Mesa Security Team
Security guards are your friends. Tap them on the shoulder and they'll
cover you, fighting monsters that attack you on the way. They can also
help you open security doors that you and the rest of the science team
don't have access to. Sometimes called "Barneys" due to their
resemblance to Barney Fife of the Andy Griffith Show, security guards
may not be very bright, but they can come in handy. Be warned; they
won't hesistate to defend themselves and their co-workers, so pushing
them around is ill-advised.

G-Man
Mysterious Observer
This strange man in a blue suit seems to be watching you throughout your
battles. With a sinister look on his face, a habit of loosening his
tie and never physically getting involved in the fight, one would hardly
consider the G-Man an ally, but at the end of Gordon's travels, it
becomes clear (or at least clearer) that the G-Man has a keen interest
in Gordon's survival... |
