Half-Life: Opposing Force Weapons
With nine new weapons, plus almost all of the original weapons,
Half-Life: Opposing Force has a lot to offer. Study your arsenal and
know what you'll be using soldier!

Pipe Wrench Melee Weapon
Crackin'
open skulls has never been easier with this bad-ass! While the attack
is slower than the original crowbar, the wrench is considerably more
powerful. Even with a massive swing as the secondary attack, once you
get some real firepower, its fifteen minutes of fame are over. |
|
Combat Knife Melee Weapon
A step
up from the wrench, the knife does less damage per hit but makes up for
with a much faster rate of attack. The knife is best used for
conserving ammo while fighting weakened enemies and breaking open supply
crates. Also, if you can sneak up on an enemy, stabbing them in the
back is an instant kill.

Barnacle Grapnel
Specimen 1176
was the one and only barnacle detached by Black Mesa scientists. Used
for getting from one place to another quickly and exterminating little
pests like headcrabs and shockroaches, the barnacle will prove very
useful in your journey through Black Mesa.

Desert Eagle Hand Gun
Need to
make a large hole in someone? The deagle is Opposing Force’s equivalent
of the Half-Life .357. With one more bullet per clip and an optional
laser pointer, keeping it on-hand is a smart move.
|
|
Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) Heavy Machine Gun
Not
found until later in the game, the SAW is a very powerful weapon and
will get the job done—but with only 50 bullets per bullet chain and a
stupendously slow reload time, careless use of the SAW can result in an
untimely death.
|
|
Sniper Rifle Ranged Weapon
Unlike
the Half-Life counterpart (the crossbow), the sniper rounds hit
instantly. The sniper rifle will cause extreme damage to the target, but
its slow reload time and bolt-action nature means it’s probably not the
best weapon to use in the middle of a chaotic firefight. |
|
Displacer Experimental Weapon
The
displacer will launch a green orb; if this hits an enemy it will
teleport them out of the level, and if it hits a wall or floor near the
enemy, the shockwave will gib them! Another cool feature is the
secondary ability to teleport yourself to Xen, where either nice or
nasty surprises may be found. The gun’s biggest drawback is the major
amount of power it uses.

Shockroach Alien Weapon
When a
Shock Trooper gets killed, its shockroach buddy is usually still
alive—these things are just dying for a fleshy chunk of you. Luckily,
you eventually get to pick one up and control the bursts of electricity
that make those shock troopers so annoying. The electricity regenerates
automatically, making it a good weapon with infinite ammunition. Have
caution underwater, as firing will cause an instant death.
|
|
Spore Launcher Alien Weapon
The
spore launcher is an infantile shock trooper that can be held in your
hand. It feeds on spores which grow in various places around Black
Mesa. Once this strange creature is fed, it will shoot the spores out of
its mouth on command at great speeds. Secondary fire will launch a
bouncing grenade-like spore that will pop in an acid-like explosion
after a few seconds.
