Team Fortress Classic Classes
Choosing from among Team Fortress Classic's variety of classes can be
daunting at first. This page breaks down each class with a brief
synopsis cataloging their weapons, unique skills, and basic attributes.
Reading through each description should give the beginning player a
strong grasp of each character's role on a team and in battle.
|
Scout
Lightly Armored, Very Fast Class
The scout trades durability for insane speed. Only being equipped
with a crowbar, nailgun, single barrel shotgun, three caltrops, and
three concussion grenades means this is the least deadly of classes.
Luckily, enemy defenders can be easily evaded. Caltrops slow down
would-be pursuers while the concussion grenades allow you to soar across
the battlefield. As extra aces up your sleeve, the scout can unmask
enemy spies and defuse detpacks on contact. All in all, the scout is a
solid choice for an attacker hungry for enemy flags!

|
Sniper
Lightly Armored, Medium Speed Class
The sniper, as you would expect, can kill any class from a long way off.
The TFC twist to sniping is each shot must be charged to do maximum
damage, and in order to kill the more armored enemies you'll need to put
a bullet between their eyes. Thankfully, the sniper isn't completely
defenseless at close range, because in addition to two grenades, a
crowbar, and a nailgun, the sniper's rifle has an automatic setting for
instantaneous shots at a fast firing rate. If you like killing people
from the safety of distance, the sniper is your class!
|
|
Soldier
Heavily Armored, Slow Speed Class
The soldier is a versatile class, effective on both offense and defense
with a deadly arsenal consisting of a crowbar, both types of shotguns, a
rocket launcher, four normal grenades and a nail grenade. On offense,
the rocket launcher, when fired directly downwards, allows the heavily
armored soldier to fly through the air and easily reach sniper decks and
battlements. On defense, the soldier's rockets when fired at the feet
of enemies can buffet, disorient, and ultimately gib attackers. The
soldier is sure to satisfy all your rocket launching needs!

|
Demoman
Medium Armored, Medium Speed Class
The demoman's primary weapon, the pipe-launcher, takes a skilled hand.
Lay traps and defends flags or chokepoints with your manually detonated
pipes, or kill people on contact with your time delayed pipes. If
you're stuck reloading the pipe-launcher, you can fall back on your
shotgun or crowbar. Use your normal grenades and MIRV grenades to clear
rooms. Open up alternate routes, sabotage command points, or kill
several enemies at once with your detpack. If you like to make things
go boom, then go demoman!
|
|
Medic
Medium Armored, Fast Speed Class
The medic is a great offensive class. His fast speed, durability, frag
grenades and concussion grenades, and regenerative ability makes for a
fast, flexible, and deadly opponent. The medkit when used on opponents
infects them with an airborne disease that will leap from defender to
nearby defender. The medkit when used on teammates can cure ailments
and will boosts their health above normal for brief periods of time.
The medic's shotguns are deadly, but the super nailgun really shines as a
sentry gun killer. Steal flags, spread disease, and heal your team as
the medic!

|
Heavy Weapons Guy
Very Heavily Armored, Very Slow Speed Class
The Heavy Weapons Guy is the most durable class in the game. Your slow
speed makes you a weak choice for offense, but when defending a flag
room or ramp room, you're a force to be reckoned with. In addition to
your crowbar, the normal grenades and a MIRV, you come equipped with
both shotguns. However, your deadliest weapon is the assault cannon.
This weapon takes a while to begin firing, but once it does it will make
short work of any nearby enemies. If you favor a class so large
explosions can't shake you, then this is your man!
|
|
Pyro
Heavily Armored, Medium Speed Class
The pryo, as you could probably guess, lights people on fire. You have
three choices when it comes to turning an enemy into a burn victim: your
incendiary cannon, your flamethrower, and your napalm grenades. All
three of these weapons engulf your enemy in flames, obscuring their
vision and eating away at their health. Keep in mind, these weapons
won't work underwater, but luckily you also have your choice of shotgun,
crowbar, or normal grenade at your disposal. Your unique armor
protects you from the flames, so light 'em up and watch 'em burn!
|
|
Spy
Medium Armored, Medium Speed Class
The spy is a master of disguise and subterfuge. Able to feign death and
change his appearance to match any class on any team, a clever spy can
infiltrate the enemy base unnoticed. A disguised spy can walk past
enemy sentry guns and throw normal or hallucinatory grenades. Attacking
with the nailgun, shotgun, tranquilizer pistol, or knife will reveal
you. Stabbing your opponent in the back yields an instant kill. A
clever spy can sow chaos and paranoia among the enemy's ranks, and if
this appeals to you then the spy is your class!
|
|
Engineer
Lightly Armored, Medium Speed Class
The engineer can manufacture ammo, dispensers, teleporters, and
upgradeable sentry guns. Additionally, the engineer can repair
teammates' armor. The engineer doesn't need to only rely on his
machines, because he comes well armed with a railgun, super shotgun,
four normal grenades and four devestating EMPs. When this grenade
detonates, any nearby metallic ammunition or objects explode, including
the metal ammunition carried by enemies. Able to repair and resupply
teammates, as well as set-up base defenses, the engineer is a necessary
addition to any team!
|
|
Civilian
Lightly Armored, Slow Speed Class
The civilian is a selectable class in escort maps such as The Hunted.
His low health, slow speed, and limited weaponry (i.e. just an umbrella)
forces him to look to his team of bodyguards (typically comprised of
medics, soldiers, and heavy weapons guys) to get past the snipers and
into the escape zone. The civilian, more than any other class, is
representative of TFC's focus on teamwork and cooperation.
