Team Fortress, a popular team-based action game series, is a first-person shooter developed by Valve Software,
the creators of the renowned Half-Life series. This online shooter
features a distinctive class system, boasting nine unique classes with a
variety of exclusive skills, weapons and attributes. Given the varying
strengths and weaknesses of each class, a team must ultimately work
together to win. The official maps focus on a variety of different
team-oriented objectives including, to name but a few, flag capture,
escort and territory control. Since Team Fortress Classic's release in
the spring of 1999, official patches have updated the look of the
character classes and added new gameplay elements.
The Team Fortress series has been around for more than a decade, with
its origins in Quake. The second chapter in the series, known as Team
Fortress Classic brought the frantic class-based action to the Half-Life
engine in the spring of 1999. The third and most recent chapter in the
series, known as Team Fortress 2, is bundled with the Half-Life 2: Orange Box package.
With the release of Steam,
Team Fortress Classic became readily-accessible to new players. In the
summer of 2006, teaser trailers for Team Fortress 2 were uploaded to
Steam, and are currently available in the "My Media" tab. The two
trailers reveal an exciting new look for the long-running series, as
well as a significant departure from the TF2's original conception as it
was revealed in 2001. Despite its long development time, the
next-generation of the Team Fortress series remains one of the most
eagerly anticipated games of 2007. With its variety of classes and
game-types, the Team Fortress series boasts something for everyone!

Some TF2 community happenings 19:19 PST | Shadowex3 | Print News | Category: Team Fortress 2The ESL Nations Cup Grand Finale came down to Germany vs The UK, the results have not been posted yet. Next up for ESL's TF2 leagues is the 1v1 Scout Whiskas Cup, also an EU tournament.
Outside of tournament news a group of content artists have gotten
together to create a full sized faux-update full of custom content for
medieval mode. They've decided to call it, naturally, the Medieval Update.
In a similar move of epic creativity Tablecloth and Chaoughkimyero
have created a real life Cow Mangler 5000,
the awesomeness of which may or may not be tempered by the fact one of
them has also gone to the trouble of acquiring a Towering Pillar of Hat
as well.

Two controversial new soldier weapons 18:56 PST | Shadowex3 | Print News | Category: Team Fortress 2Introduced in This recent posting, and explained by a Comic, Valve has added two new ammo-less weapons for the Soldier: The Cow Mangler 5000 and the Righteous Bison.
The Cow Mangler 5000 is a Rocket Launcher replacement whose primary
firing mode behaves like a standard rocket launcher except for having an
infinitely refillable supply of ammunition (recharged via the reload
system). The secondary attack will consume a full charge, slow the
soldier down to 25% of normal speed from his usual 80%, and after 3
seconds release a devastating blast that will deal up to 121 damage (81
base damage), mini-crit players and cause a short afterburn, and
shutdown the Engineer's buildings temporarily. As a tradeoff it will
normally do half damage to buildings.
The second weapon, the Righteous Bison, takes the place of the
Shotgun and has a similar ammunition system but functions entirely
different from the weapon it replaces. The Bison instead fires an
unreflectable projectile which is capable of piercing enemy players and
buildings, though like it's counterpart it will deal half damage to
buildings.
