Half-Life 2: Episode One Walkthrough
Chapter 1: Undue Alarm
The
game begins with a short, non-interactive intro. After listening to
Breen's taunts, you'll see how Alyx escaped the destruction of the
citadel. Then you'll see the G-Man on the receiving end of some deserved
antagonism.
Now you're in the first act of the game. Once you've been exhumed,
Alyx will give you a big hug, and Dog will return your gravity gun. Use
it to pull the board off of the metal gate. Walk across it after it
turns into a ramp and then join Alyx and Dog at the monitor station.
When the monitor scene is over, walk to the edge of the gorge. You'll
see a small ledge jutting out—drop down to it and then follow the path 1.
Make a careful jump; look out for falling debris, then blast the car
out of your way. After you reach the unbridgeable chasm, wait for Alyx
to figure out a way across. Be careful of the van that Dog launches.
When it has settled, climb in the passenger side, then enjoy the ride!
Once you’ve finally landed, exit the van and make your way through
the corridors. Enjoy your view of the crumbling citadel, and then jump
over the ledge. When you come to the next field, Alyx will find that she
can’t disable it because of the stalkers on the other side. She will
disable a different gate for you, allowing you to crawl through a small
passage (you’ll see a stalker lying dead at the end).
Once you’re through, head to the lowest ledge, but don’t stay on it,
as it will collapse. Cross over the malfunctioning elevator when it
reaches the lower level. Looming in front of you is a tube filled with
rollermines 2. Activate the switch
that’s underneath the tube. Grab one of the mines with your gravity gun
and run like hell; the rest should fall off the platform, but not
without trying to. Get on the elevator and bring the mine over to Alyx
so she can reprogram it. You can either simply release it or launch it
into the room containing the two stalkers. Regardless of what you
choose, make sure you watch the result. Once you’ve passed the room,
proceed through some more corridors. At one point, you’ll need to move
some debris with your gravity gun 3.
Hop down to the ledge and walk along it until you come to a bridge 4.
Some soldiers will approach from the other side, but an unexpected
vortex will take care of them. Unfortunately, you have to pass it too.
Wait for the vortex to shut down, then sprint like hell across the
bridge.
It may take a few tries, so watch your timing. Alyx will eventually
catch up. There is another ledge for you to hop over, and then proceed
to the ominous room with the four generators lining the wall 5.
The room will temporarily catch you, and then supercharge your gravity
gun. Retrieve it, and then continue. You’ll come to another large room
where there should be a bridge. However, it is not fully active.
Use your gravity gun to pull an energy ball from the stream beneath you 6,
and then launch it into the socket on the left side. After you cross,
some soldiers will appear to deter you, but Alyx and you should have no
problem getting through them. The next bridge needs both sides
activated, so repeat what you did before.
Once again there will be soldiers coming after you once you’ve
crossed. The last bridge presents a different challenge. The socket on
the left is blocked by a sheet of glass 7.
However, the balls are quite bouncy, so trying deflecting one in by
launching it just above the socket and having it ricochet off the glass.
There are more corridors to proceed through, but look out for a combine
ambush at one point. There is a gap to hop over, then a bridge to
cross. You’ll be walking on a tight pathway. Look for an exit halfway
down on the right hand side. After you’re back in the corridors Alyx
will active a door for you. There will be an elevator waiting for you,
but it needs power. Take the ball from the stream in the room and
launch it into the socket across the chasm 8.
The elevator will start up. Use your gravity to stop the large pieces
of debris from wrecking the elevator and ending your ride. The elevator
will stop at another socket. Take a ball from one of the columns 9,
and bounce it in to the socket. Be prepared for more debris. When the
elevator stops again, toss another a ball at the socket. However, a
stalker is there to thwart you. Launch another ball at him.
Once he is out of the way, start up the socket again. After the
elevator reaches the bottom, get off the platform quickly. Once it is
destroyed, proceed through the double doors into the next act.
